You can become a leader on campus and in your living community by participating in residence hall governance, health, safety, and environmental programs. These opportunities enable you to directly provide student representation in the decisions that affect residents and the community. Many residence hall leaders also make life-long friends and connections.
- The Residence Hall AssemblyaddResidence Hall Assembly (RHA) is the umbrella organization for the Hall Associations in each building. RHA consists of representatives from each residence hall and serves as an advocacy group for student issues. They represent the residents living on campus to Residential and Student Service Programs (RSSP) and to other groups that impact residential life. RHA coordinates many campus-wide activities and programs and recommends policy changes to RSSP. - Hall AssociationsaddHall Associations are the student governments in each residential building or area. They organize many of the activities for the community such as movie nights, dances, coffee houses, finals study breaks, excursions to local points of interest, intramural sports teams, and cookouts. Each Hall Association elects an Executive Committee (Ex Comm) for both the fall and spring semesters at the beginning of each semester. To cover the cost of special events and activities sponsored in the residence halls, $45 per year is paid by each student as part of the housing contract and distributed among the Residence Hall Assembly and Hall Associations. You are encouraged to attend weekly meetings, share your ideas, and get involved.
- National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH)addThe National Residence Hall Honorary at Berkeley is a student organization that truly believes recognition is an important aspect of the community experience in the residence halls. NRHH fosters recognition by inducting members it believes to represent the top 1% of undergraduate students living on campus.
- Peer Review BoardaddWant to positively influence community behavior? As a Peer Review Board (PRB) member, you will be able to review and evaluate the behaviors of your peers and reinforce and clarify community expectations. There are two boards whose members are trained to hear conduct cases throughout the residential system.
- Health Worker ProgramaddThe University Health Services’ (UHS) Health Worker Program is the largest and longest running peer health education program on the UC Berkeley campus. UHS staff train student peer educators to provide health promotion services to over 5,000 residents in nine of our campus living center communities, including the residence halls. Health Workers provide peer health education, outreach, and advising services to support you with your health-related needs. Health Workers post weekly health tips, coordinate numerous health-oriented programs, and provide information about UHS and community health resources. - Residential Sustainability ProgramaddMembers of the Housing & Dining Sustainability Advocates (HADSA) use student - led advocacy, auditing and peer education to make sustainability accessible and appealing to the residential hall community.
