Jing Liu is a full-time Japanese Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley. She teaches Japanese courses and fosters student engagement through cultural and social initiatives. Beyond teaching Japanese language courses, Jing is deeply committed to social initiatives, organizing Japanese food education events as a Wa-Shokuiku (和食育) Partner Instructor for the nonprofit organization Table for Two. These culinary events promote cultural understanding and provide students with opportunities to engage in Japanese culinary traditions. Jing also collaborates with the Berkeley Language Center, supporting student involvement in programs such as UC Berkeley Words in Action, a multilingual and multicultural student performance. She has successfully hosted cooking classes, introduced students to the Japanese tradition of “Ohanami” (cherry blossom viewing), and led initiatives like the “Onigiri Action” campaign, which supports global child nutrition. Jing’s work at UC Berkeley highlights her commitment to integrating language learning with cultural appreciation and social good, enriching the student experience and promoting a deeper understanding of Japanese culture.
